radio

Music is a hugely popular form of entertainment that keeps people happy all around the world. The main way in which it is promoted is through air play on the radio. Radio has been around since the 1800s and has allowed mass media output for much longer than the television.

A typical modern day show will consist of a presenter (often with some co presenters) speaking into a microphone and introducing the output, from games, interviews and other features. These broadcasts will be segmented into sections in the form of songs, often recently released so that they will receive promotion, or they will be older songs that have been popular in years gone by.

Music is not involved in all radio output though. Some stations provide output without any interruptions in the forms of comedy shows like sketch shows, stand up and panel shows (some of which could lead to television versions), topical shows on current affairs and news.

But though radio provides all kinds of output, it is best known for music and its purpose as a medium in which audio is primary means that it is no wonder.
